Heavy Snow Loads On Roofs Can Be Dangerous!

2/02/11

I Had seen this in the news earlier today. PLEASE NOTE: Roofs are designed to carry a certain maximum load per square foot (PSF). And even if the load (snow) is close to it's maximum the length of time a snow load sits on a roof matters also. (Especially when more snow or moisture/rain is added)

Moral of the story: If you have a building with a flat roof (or flat roof section or a low pitched roof) check it often in the winter. Snow can drift up putting an unbalanced load on portions of the roof which can easily exceed the maximum . Clean the roof off periodically over the winter. And be safe while doing so!

And of course the All State "Mayhem" commercial mixing humor and relaying the
importance of removing the snow build up on your roof. Enjoy.
